GHANA RE’S 13TH CEDANTS’ AWARDS NIGHT

As part of Ghana Re’s 50e anniversary celebrations, the company organized its 13e Cedants’ award ceremony at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel on October 7, 2022. The theme for the programme was “Celebrating 50 Years of Ghana Re As Your African Reinsurer Of Choice”.

The programme was chaired by Ambassador Edward Boateng, Director General of SIGA and the guest speaker for the occasion was the 2nd Deputy Governor of Bank of Ghana, Mrs. Elsie Addo-Awadzie who was represented by Mrs. Abla Mawulolo Masoperh, Head of Legal, Bank of Ghana. In attendance were the Commissioner of Insurance (represented by Mrs. Stella Jonah), Board, Management, retired and current Staff of Ghana Re and our cherished Cedants.

The Deputy Managing Director, Technical of Ghana Re, Mrs. Monica Amissah opened the awards night’s celebrations by thanking the guests/cedants for accepting Ghana Re’s invitation and honouring our Company with their presence. She indicated that the reason for the dinner and awards night celebration was to first of all, celebrate Ghana Re’s 50e milestone and to reward our dependable cedants’ for their continuous contribution to the growth of our company, especially the 2021 financial year.

The Managing Director of Ghana Re, Mr. George Yaw Mensah traced the Company’s history back to October 1, 1972 when it first started as a department within State Insurance Corporation (now SIC Company of Ghana) through to date where, in a bid to bring Ghana Re’s business operations closer to the doorstep of our business partners, has re-strategized its Africanization agenda leading to the set-up of regional offices in Kenya, Cameroon and recently Morocco.

He used the opportunity to outline Ghana Re’s achievements over the years, particularly the Company’s continued profitability and contribution to the socio-economic development of the country through payment of dividends to its sole shareholder, the Government of Ghana.

Additionally, he pointed out Ghana Re’s immense contribution to the growth and development of expertise in re/insurance and related fields for professionals in the insurance industry both in Ghana and across Africa.

He disclosed that Management under the direction of the Board is implementing strategies to further strengthen business operations to make Ghana Re even more relevant as an African reinsurer of choice and to put the Company on a higher business pedestal.

In his closing remarks, the Managing Director thanked the former Managing Directors, past and present Board Directors and staff, business partners, (local and international) and the shareholder for their continued support.
