Mr. Seth Aklasi

Mr. Seth Aklasi is a seasoned business leader with 25 years of experience in finance and
insurance, specialising in underwriting, risk management, reinsurance, product
development and corporate strategy.

Mr. Aklasi began his career at Enterprise Insurance Company Limited (EICL), the
leading General Insurance Company in Ghana, serving as a Motor Underwriter. He
also became a Client Relations Officer in the Broker Unit and later progressed
to become an Accounts Manager at EICL.

In 2008, he joined International Energy Insurance (IEI) as a Deputy Manager and rose through the ranks to become the Chief Operations Officer. During his tenure, he spearheaded key corporate initiatives in pricing, reinsurance, claims administration, and strategic growth, significantly expanding the company’s market share. As Head of Operations and Energy Group/Special Accounts of IEI, he transformed it into the company’s highest revenue-generating business unit.

He briefly served as the Managing Director of Priority Insurance. Between 2015 and February 2025, Mr. Aklasi served as the Chief Executive Officer of Donewell Insurance Limited, where he led the company’s transformation, driving innovation, operational efficiency, and sustainable growth.

One of his most significant accomplishments has been ensuring consistent profitability at Donewell Insurance. Through strategic planning, prudent risk management, and a relentless focus on operational excellence, the company consistently recorded strong financial performance from 2015 to 2024, achieving nine consecutive years of profitability. With 2024 recording the highest profitability.

In February 2025, he was appointed as Ag. Managing Director of Ghana Reinsurance PLC (Ghana Re), the first and largest reinsurance company in Ghana with over 300 clients across Africa and strategic contact offices in Morocco, Cameroon and a subsidiary in Kenya. Upon inauguration of the Board of Ghana Re in June 2025, Mr. Aklasi was confirmed as the substantive Managing Director.

Mr. Aklasi’s leadership has been instrumental in shaping the Ghanaian insurance landscape. He has played a pivotal role in the development of the insurance industry in Ghana. He has served as Chairman of the Accident Committee of the Ghana Insurers Association (GIA) and is currently serving his second term as President of the GIA. He has also served as a two-term Executive Committee Member of the Ghana National Bureau of the ECOWAS Brown Card Scheme, holding the position of Vice Chairman in his second term. Additionally, he is a member of the Client Rescue Fund Committee of the National Insurance Commission (NIC), a member of the Executive Committee of the African Insurance Organisation (AIO), and an Academic Board Member of the West African Insurance Institute. He was also a panellist at the Africa Re Insurance Awards, which aimed to recognise and promote excellence in the African insurance industry. Mr. Aklasi has attended a number of insurance-related courses both at home and abroad.

As a distinguished insurance professional, Mr. Aklasi is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII), UK, and a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Ghana (FCIIG). He also holds a Master of Science degree in Insurance and Risk Management from Bayes Business School of the University of London and a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences from the University of Cape Coast.
